Director of Programs

Magnet Schools of America (MSA), the national nonprofit association for magnet and specialized theme-based schools, is seeking a Director of Programs to lead our professional learning, leadership development, and technical assistance initiatives. The ideal candidate is a strategic leader who understands professional development from the practitioner’s perspective, can identify and address system-level needs, grow innovative services, manage a national team of experts, and work collaboratively within MSA’s senior leadership team. The Director of Programs role is ideal for an education professional passionate about advancing school choice, innovation, and excellence in K-12 education.

Position Details

  • Location: Fully remote with travel for meetings and events.
  • Reports to: CEO, as part of the senior leadership team.
  • Commitment: Full-time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead MSA’s National Institute for Magnet School Leadership, including program design, development, and recruitment.
  • Oversee professional development and consulting services; manage subject matter experts and marketing strategies.
  • Grow systems-level technical assistance and grant application consulting services.
  • Develop new professional learning opportunities, including asynchronous offerings for educators and districts.
  • Serve as a senior thought partner, contributing to organizational strategy and member support.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 5 years in senior educational leadership (district, state, federal, or nonprofit).
  • Expertise in professional development design, systems planning, and team management.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to expand and market services.
  • Collaborative leader with excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Background as an educator, preferably with direct magnet or theme-based program experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
